What are sustainable hotels?
Who does not know the little signs in hotels with information such as “We are a sustainable hotel. Therefore, for the sake of the environment, we ask you to use towels several times. ”Or the breakfast corner with 10% organic content and the promise that you have bought regional products for guests - without clearly showing where the food actually comes from and which route it takes have behind you.
Is that enough to qualify as a sustainable hotel? If, in the opinion of our organic hoteliers, it doesn't work. Because only those who think outside the box and constantly strive for higher can offer their guests a holistic, sustainable experience in the hotel.

Why do we need sustainable hotels?
What began in 2001 with a few like-minded hoteliers is now the largest association of sustainable hotels in the world.
In the beginning our focus was mainly on 100% certified organic quality, but over the years many other important aspects of sustainability have been added.
But why do we need sustainable hotels at all?
Sustainable hotels as a guarantee for sustainable relaxation
Vacation is not just vacation. Because only those who fully recover during this most precious time of the year are prepared for the coming challenges of everyday life. How do I want to organize my journey? How well will I sleep in the hotel? And how will I like the food? All important questions to think about. A hotel stay in your own country or nearby foreign countries can do a lot to help you travel and enjoy as stress-free as possible: building biology rooms, the finest and high-quality organic food, natural bedding and much more help you regenerate in a natural and healthy way. We have shaped sustainable relaxation since our foundation in 2001 and offer you the hotel experiences that you deserve. Sustainable hotels as a green alternative
On the one hand, travel behavior has changed significantly - especially in the 21st century. “Further and more often away” seems to be the status quo in the minds of many people. This inevitably means that we are putting an additional burden on the environment with our global travel lifestyle. Long air trips to distant countries, cruise ship trips on the high seas, weekend trips to hip metropolises - the range of temptations to travel is diverse. However, not everyone is always aware that this travel behavior emits a particularly large amount of CO2. A one-week round trip with a cruise ship alone causes (depending on the size of the ship and the number of guests, of course) between one and three tons of CO2 - per guest! This requires a clear rethink and attractive alternatives in tourism. After all, we only have one planet. Green holidays in your own country or nearby foreign countries keep your ecological footprint small - and can be at least as exciting and enjoyable!

100% certified hotels
Our strict guidelines are what guarantee you maximum transparency. With us you get the finest, high-quality organic food and drinks. All of our hotels are checked at least twice a year by independent partners (both announced and unannounced). With us, you can be sure that there is also organic in it where it says organic. Organic is our DNA - from day one. No other hotel association on the market offers you this high level of high-quality catering!
Regionality & seasonality
Short delivery routes not only ensure that less CO2 is emitted, but also that the quality is crisp and fresh on the plate. Many of our ambitious sustainable hotels therefore have their own gardens and certified organic farms. We also work with selected, mostly long-term partner companies. This is how our hoteliers ensure that you can enjoy absolute top quality with us with a clear conscience. Seasonality also plays an important role for us. Experienced master chefs process what nature gives us - at the right time, with love and meticulous care.
Natural materials & building biology
Again and again guests tell us about this special feeling when they enter our hotels and rooms. No wonder, because in our sustainable houses you will find the finest natural materials and often also refined building-biological architecture. Some of our hoteliers are true pioneers in this field and offer you innovative building biology: the finest stone pine rooms, "wedged" solid wood construction without metallic elements, naturally warming or cooling clay walls and much more. For wonderful living in the hotel and relaxing tranquility.
Heavenly sleeping comfort with electrosmog reduction
Healthy sleep is essential for our wellbeing. When it comes to sleeping comfort, our organic hoteliers don't do things by halves. Hand-made solid wood furniture with materials from the respective region, beds without metallic elements and electrosmog reduction through building-biological refinements such as clay walls are just some of the components with which our hosts will surprise you. Fall asleep carefree in the finest natural bedding and wake up rested in the morning - easy in our BIO HOTELS!
100% certified organic and natural cosmetics
Whether in the spa or in your room - in our sustainable hotels you will only find certified organic and natural cosmetics. Only pure nature comes to your skin. We also work with long-term partners in this area. With miila mi we also offer you our in-house organic cosmetics line.
Climate neutrality or climate positivity
With an average of 9.64 kg of CO2 per overnight stay and breakfast, our sustainable hotels are pioneers when it comes to climate protection. Most of our houses are already climate neutral. This means that CO2 emissions that cannot be avoided are offset by supporting climate protection projects. But we're not resting on our laurels - the next ambitious goal of our organic hoteliers has already been set: from 2023 we want to be the first hotel association that operates 100% climate-positive! With us you can pay attention to your ecological footprint even on vacation or on business trips and travel responsibly.
