Tegernsee-Schliersee-Wendelstein in Deutschland
Tegernsee and Schliersee are the two biggest lakes in the Wendelstein region. They are mountain lakes with excellent water quality and are suitable for bathing. The administrative district Miesbach is known mainly because of the Tegernsee Valley and the Schliersee-Wendelstein region, which is one of the loveliest holiday destinations in Germany. Miesbach lies to the south of Munich on the A8 motorway from Munich to Salzburg. The motorway exits Holkirchen, Weyarn and Irschenberg are already within the Miesbach district. With the health resort Bayrischzell, well known for the skiing at Sudelfeld, and the smaller Kreuth district, known through the Hanns-Seidel-Foundation in Wildbad Kreuth, Miesbach borders in the south on Austria. Whereas the the south of the Miesbach district is characterised by Alpine landscape, in the north you see idyllic hilly country with a wonderful view of the mountains, moorland lakes and the Mangfall Valley. Munich draws 80% of its drinking water from this valley.
Belonging to the 17 local authorities are such famous health and holiday resorts as Tegernsee, Bad Wiessee, Rottach-Egern, Wildbad Kreuth and Gmund in the Tegernsee Valley, Bayrischzell, Schliersee and Fischbachau in the Schliersee-Wendelstein region. These towns have very different characteristics: in Rottach-Egern on Tegernsee with its luxury shopping street, the Seestraße, the visitor will find fashionable flair - in Tegernsee too, with its traditional little pubs. more about this holiday destination |
