Alsace in Frankreich

Unspoilt little villages with centuries-old half-timbered houses, enticing vineyards, festivals with folk costume, must-see sights and an abundance of history.

Alsace, a real bone of contention in the past, is richly blessed with history and tradition and represents a very worthwhile journey into times past in Europe. The first impressions you get when you travel to Alsace almost feel like clichées: original villages with ancient half-timbered houses, storks’ nests on the roofs, inviting vineyards, festivals with traditional costumes and cosy pubs. But Alsace is a modern region as well that is looking confidently to the future. Over recent decades, its international orientation had made Alsace into a prosperous part of France: Strasbourg in particular, the home of the European Parliament, is a modern city of industry and administration. Every town here has attractions to be visited, from historic town centres to Rohan Castle.

However, many visitors wend their way to Alsace to partake of its culinary delights. There are 13 named tourist routes, such as the Cheese Road (Käsestraße), the Romantic Road (Romantische Straße) and the famous Wine Road (Weinstraße), that give visitors the opportunity to experience at first hand the contented joie de vivre and the hospitality of the people of Alsace.
