Co. Wicklow in Irland
What makes Ireland different from other destinations is the country’s rich history, the unique landscape and the friendliness of its people. The capital of the Republic of Ireland lies in the middle of a region that immediately captures the heart of the visitor. Its great attractions include many historical sites, wonderful natural environment, exciting sports events and totally unspoilt lakes, rivers and long coastal strips.
As a rule, visitors arrive in Dublin, and this youthful city bursting with energy pulsates in an enticing mixture of history, culture, trendy bars and pubs, elegant architecture, great shopping and some of the country’s finest restaurants. Cosmopolitan and full of variety, Dublin has become one of the top addresses among the cities of Europe.
Go beyond Dublin and the east of the country tells quite a different story: this region offers a slice of Irish life, full of contrast. On account of its natural charm, places of historical interest like Newgrange and Clanmacnoise, top golf facilities and world renowned horse racing, the region has become highly desirable.
What characterises the east of Ireland is the completely unspoilt natural environment. With glittering lakes, calm rivers, authentic country life, rich pastures, gentle hills and
abundant meadows, this countryside is a paradise for nature lovers. Worthy of special mention is the Wicklow Mountains National Park with over 20 000 ha. This spectacular National Park is dotted with luxuriant green valleys, wonderful lakes and misty woodland.
In this splendid natural environment a host of recreational facilities are available: cycling, hiking, water sports, angling, golf, riding and boating – the possibilities are virtually limitless.
But it is not only the lovely countryside that casts its spell – what makes Wicklow so charming are the friendly villages, the long unspoilt beaches, the elegant country houses with their gardens and, not least, an historical site dating from the 6th century.
