Bavarian Forest in Deutschland
The biggest forest landscape in central Europe, measuring around 6 000 square kilometres, is located between the Danube, the Bohemian Forest and the Austrian border. This region offers visitors unspoilt nature with clear streams and mountain lakes and, according to official statistics, the purest air in the whole of Germany.
In the Bavarian Forest National Park – internationally recognised and the oldest national park in Germany – everything is left to nature, so that the natural character and biological diversity of this primeval forest can be preserved.
There are 320 km of well signposted paths and 170 km of cross-country ski routes. An all-year-round programme of events, with lots of fun, helps both younger and older visitors to understand the complexities of the region’s ecology.
There is a great deal to explore in the gentle landscape of the Bavarian Forest, in the words of the writer Adalbert Stifter the’land of silence’.
If you are interested in culture, there is no danger of becoming bored. There are not only collections of important art treasures in Passau, the residence of bishops, but also in many other places a constantly growing number of museums, glassworks and traditional workshops introduce visitors to the people and practices of yesteryear.
The Bavarian Forest is ideal for families, not only because the hospitality industry has adapted specifically to children and their needs but also because boredom is out of the question. more about this holiday destination |
