Elbtalaue-Wendland in Deutschland
In the middle of Germany, a natural and cultural landscape of particular quality in the form of the biosphere reservation Elbtalaue in Lower Saxony. It is crossed by the Elbe, one of central Europe’s biggest rivers. The nature park Elbufer-Drawehn is also characterised by a landscape full of contrasts. On the one hand, the banks of the Elbe with a clear view over marshes and dikes, sparkling lakes and streams. On the other, ancient woodland, dotted with meadows and a former royal hunting park that has been carefully tended for centuries. Impressive silence and natural dynamism in equal measure. The little towns Hitzacker, Dannenberg and Lüchow, with their half-timbered houses, tempt you to walk round and drop into a cafe. The circular villages near Clenze take you back to a less hectic time. And in the middle of this riverine landscape, the family-friendly spa town Gartow, with its lake and thermal baths, makes your children jump for joy. Again and again, you come across evidence of culture, ancient and modern. more about this holiday destination |
