The Engadine in Schweiz
An inner valley of the Alps running in a southwards direction, not swamped by day trippers and for many people still a hidden secret! Engadina, derived from the Rhaeto-Romanic name of the river Inn (En), is a high valley in the Swiss Canton Graubünden. It is more than 80 km long and one of the highest inhabited valleys in Europe. Engadina forms the upper reaches of the Inn valley and is itself divided into Upper and Lower Engadina. These two sections of the valley are joined by the Punt’Ota (high bridge).
Culinary delights of the Engadine
One thing is certain - your journey to the Engadine will also be a culinary adventure with many a tasty surprise. Among the well known delicacies are the Engadine nut gateau on sale in all baker’s shops (and by mail order as well – sweet greetings from the Engadine, you might say). Bread with a filling of dried pears and other fruits (Birnbrot) is another real treat. more about this holiday destination |
